The practice of non-invasive physical techniques used to manipulate or mobilize the soft tissues and joint structures for the purpose of decreasing pain, increasing mobility and stability, benefitting mood, promoting an active immune and lymphatic system, and enhancing circulation and breathing.
What Neuromuscular Manual Therapy Cannot do:
There is no evidence found to support claims that manual/massage therapy can directly:
- Increase muscle tone, muscle strength or bulk
- Decrease the amount of cellulite or adipose tissue
- Prevent muscular atrophy in the denervated tissue with a permanent nerve lesion
